The Academic Staff Union of Universities, in solidarity with the Nigeria Labour Congress has ordered its members throughout the nation to join in the sfirke action as an affiliate member of the NLC.
This is contained in a letter written to branches Chairpersons of ASUU dated 2nd June, 2024. The statement signed by ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, was entitled ‘INDEFINITE NATIONWIDE STRIKE ACTION BY NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS’
It reads: “The NLC has declared an indefinite strike action beginning from Monday 3rd June, 2024, as a result of the failure of the Government to conclude the renegotiation of minimum wage for Nigerian workers and reversal of hike in electricity tariff. Our branched are hereby enjoined to join in the strike action as an affiliate member of Congress.”
It further states: “Consequently, Branch Chairpersons are to mobilise all members to participate in the strike action.”
In compliance with the statement issued by ASUU, branches of the Union has ordered members in their respective zones to join in solidarity with the National Labour Congress.
The OAU chapter of the Union, through its chairperson, Anthony Odiwe, has also issued a statement saying its members are enjoined to join the strike. The statement continued, “We have been directed to hold a congress tomorrow to this effect
