No fewer than four students from Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, are said to have been tragically killed in fresh cult clashes.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, confirmed the incident and stated that several suspected perpetrators of these heinous acts have been apprehended.
Adegboye also revealed that dangerous weapons, including AK-47 rifles and automatic pump-action guns, were recovered from the suspects.
Adegboye said, “We are actively dealing with the situation; we have made several arrests in relation to the cult violence. We have successfully detained some suspects, seized an AK-47, and arrested a suspect today. We currently have six individuals in custody, and our efforts will not diminish.
“We are determined to create an unwelcoming environment for criminals, especially in Auchi, where we recently intercepted two individuals carrying AK-47s and confiscated one of the weapons, dealing a blow to their activities.”
According to report, one of the victims, a final year student from the Department of Engineering, was fatally attacked while getting ready to ride a motorcycle to school for his final examination.
Another student lost his life on Friday, and a third on Saturday while on their way to the university for their second-semester exams, with the incidents occurring at Campus III and near the entrance of Campus II.
The source also disclosed that one suspected cult member was killed during the clashes, and a female student who was hit by stray bullets while heading to the school for exams sustained gunshot wounds. The injured student was promptly taken to a medical facility for treatment.
Furthermore, it was revealed that two of the deceased individuals were final year students heading to the school to sit for their final year exams when they were fatally attacked by members.
