Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to the South West Security Network (Amotekun) and its funding to enhance its operations. He also emphasized the need for State Police in Nigeria to address security challenges. Aiyedatiwa made these remarks at the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Lagos, where he delivered a lecture on “State Police as a Solution to National Insecurity.”
Aiyedatiwa highlighted the limitations of centralized policing in addressing modern security challenges and praised Amotekun as a successful state-level security initiative. He noted that Amotekun has achieved remarkable results, including restoring security and trust in communities.
The Governor encouraged other states to replicate the Amotekun model and urged the federal government to consider establishing State Police. He also thanked the NBA for organizing the session and expressed pride in Ondo State’s status as one of the most peaceful and secure states in Nigeria.
Other speakers, including the Commander of Amotekun in Ondo State, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, and human rights advocate, Femi Falana, commended the Ondo State model of Amotekun and supported the call for State Police. The NBA President, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, also expressed support for the initiative.
