The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two individuals, Abiodun Salami and Destiny Adeola, in connection with cult-related activities in the Ijoko area of Sango-Ota. The arrests were made on August 8, 2024, according to the state Command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola.
The Ijoko area, along with Sango-Ota and other parts of the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area, has seen a surge in cult clashes, attacks, and killings in recent times. In January, two unidentified individuals were killed in a suspected cult clash in Ota town.

The police were alerted to the presence of cult members at a location in Ijoko, leading to the deployment of the Anti-Robbery Squad. Salami and Adeola were apprehended, while others fled the scene.
Items recovered from the scene included a toy silver pistol, locally made amulets, and suspected Indian hemp. During questioning, Adeola admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity and revealed that he was initiated into the group in 2022.

The police are working to apprehend other members of the group who are still at large. This is not the first incident of cult-related violence in the area. In May 2024, a suspected member of the group was killed and beheaded in what was believed to be a reprisal attack.
The Ogun State Police Command is intensifying efforts to address the cult-related activities in the area and ensure the safety of residents. The arrests of Salami and Adeola are part of these efforts to curb the violence and bring those responsible to justice.
