At least thirteen individuals have been apprehended in connection with the attack on the convoy of officials from the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, led by Commissioner Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, on Monday
Recall that on Monday, the Commissioner’s convoy was attacked when they were clearing the area of encroachers and debris at Mobil, Ring Road.
According to reports, the ministry officials had visited the Mobil area on Ring Road, Ibadan, to conduct a routine evacuation of shanties and removal of illegal occupations of public spaces. However, the team was attacked by suspected hoodlums, who pelted their vehicles with objects in resistance to the enforcement exercise. Although no ministry officials were injured, the windows of some vehicles were shattered in the ensuing melee.
Following the incident, the ministry reported the matter to the State Commissioner of Police, Ayo Shonubi, on Monday. Acting on the report, a combined team of police, Amotekun, and Civil Defense personnel stormed the area on Tuesday morning, arresting thirteen suspects who were subsequently taken to the state police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.
Reacting to the incident, Commissioner Mogbonjubola stated that the attack would not deter him from his commitment to eradicating illegal occupation of public spaces. He emphasized that the state would continue to remove indiscriminately placed shops, structures, and shanties, and advised residents to utilize government-approved neighborhood markets for their trading activities.
