Oyo Trains 100+ in Livestock Artificial Insemination, to Increase Cow milk, beefs’ Production

The Oyo State government, through the State Agricultural Development Agency (OYSADA), is conducting a training program on livestock artificial insemination to enhance knowledge and improve livestock production efficiency. The training, supported by the World Bank, aims to address rising beef prices and increase cow milk production.

Over 100 participants, including local farmers, university students, government officials, and veterinary technicians, are attending the 5-day intensive training. The program focuses on advanced reproductive technologies, including artificial insemination, to improve the quality and quantity of beef and cow milk production.

Dr. Debo Akande, Executive Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Agribusiness International Corporation and Development, emphasized the significance of artificial insemination in livestock management. He noted that adopting modern technologies would improve productivity, ensure a consistent beef and cow milk supply, and support the state’s economic stability.

The training covers essential topics such as reproductive health, semen collection and storage, and insemination techniques. Participants are also engaging in hands-on practice to ensure proficiency in the field. Dr. Akande expressed appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for his visionary leadership and approval for the training workshop.

The program marks the beginning of a new livestock project in the state, aimed at ensuring residents have access to better quality beef and cow milk at affordable prices. Dr. Akande noted that the training would be extended to other geopolitical zones in the state, enabling more people to benefit from the technology.

Participants expressed optimism about the program’s potential benefits, including reduced meat prices and improved livestock production. The lead resource person, Professor Olofisayo Leigh, lauded the state government’s vision in adopting artificial insemination technology, highlighting its potential to improve animal reproduction and increase meat and cow milk production.
