Oyo State Governor Suppases First Term’s Achievements with Initiatives’ Growth

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has surpassed the achievements of his first term, demonstrating a commitment to the people of Oyo State that defies the common fears associated with second-term governors.

In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, it was announced that since 2019, a total of 335.19 km of roads have been constructed, with an impressive 190.82 km completed within just 17 months of the Governor’s second term. This achievement highlights a strong focus on infrastructure development, as the state aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility across the region.

The ongoing 110 km circular road project is set to revolutionize transportation in Oyo State, with all bridges and interchanges on the South East Segment already completed. This project is projected for full delivery within 24 months, ensuring Oyo State will be more connected to the national road network.

Additionally, the Civil Service Commission has recently announced the recruitment of 791 new workers, adding to the previously hired 692 Education Officers, 60 Environmental Health Officers, 19 Lands Officers, and 30 Lawyers. With this new recruitment, the Seyi Makinde administration will have achieved a record-breaking total of 1,592 new hires within the civil service by the halfway point of his second term.

During a leadership retreat on October 4, 2023, Governor Makinde reiterated his administration’s commitment to accelerated growth across all sectors. He urged cabinet members to deliver on promises and to exceed the accomplishments of his first term.

Looking ahead, the Governor is set to recruit 7,000 Primary School Teachers from the 46,000 candidates who participated in the recent Computer Based Test, surpassing the 5,000 Secondary School Teachers employed during his first term.

Under his leadership, the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport has been upgraded to international status, positioning Oyo State as a commercial hub in the Southwest. Moreover, the Fasola industrial estate has transformed into a key initiative in agribusiness, now hosting 10 industries on its expansive 1,100 hectares, attracting both local and international investors.
