Oyo State Commences Recruitment into Primary Healthcare Facilities Amidst Efforts to Upgrade Infrastructure

Dr. Muyideen Olatunji, Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Hospital Board, announced the commencement of recruitment into primary care facilities across the state’s three local government areas. He requested that 2021 applicants revisit the portal in a week to check their status and potential invitation for CBT examinations.

The government has renovated and upgraded primary healthcare facilities across 361 political wards, completing over 200 facilities. Additional equipment has been provided to 264 facilities. However, Dr. Olatunji emphasized the need for human resources to make these facilities functional.

The recruitment process, initially started in 2021, aims to address the shortage of healthcare workers. Despite receiving 16,035 applications, only around 3,000 positions are available. A CBT exam will be conducted to select suitable candidates, followed by an interview.

Dr. Olatunji explained that the government’s efforts to upgrade facilities and equipment are hindered by the lack of human resources. He cited the “japa syndrome” as a significant challenge, leaving many facilities understaffed.

The recruitment process will be completed within two months. Applicants can check their status on the job portal, (https://www.jobportal.oyostate.gov.ng), and click on the PHC job portal. This effort aims to strengthen the primary healthcare system, which has not seen meaningful recruitment in over 15 years.

The government seeks to educate the public about its efforts to improve primary healthcare. Dr. Olatunji emphasized the importance of human resources in making facilities functional and providing quality healthcare services.
