The Osun State Government has reported two confirmed cases of monkeypox (Mpox) in the Ilesa West local government area. The State Commissioner for Health, Mr. Jola Akintola, announced this on Monday, reassuring the public that the situation is being managed.
During a meeting of the Monkeypox Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Akintola stated that the government had successfully managed previous outbreaks, such as COVID-19, and was prepared to prevent the spread of Mpox.
The State Epidemiologist, Dr. Omolola Adeagbo, provided further details, stating that 47 suspected cases were recorded across 13 local government areas, with two confirmed cases involving male patients aged 5 and 25.
Measures taken to prevent the spread of Mpox include deploying a Rapid Response Team, conducting advocacy and sensitization efforts, and conducting active case searches in the affected community and health facilities. The confirmed cases have been linked to a state hospital in Ilesa West.
