Osun State Government Unveils Pro-People Initiatives Amidst National Protest

In response to the ongoing national protest, the Osun State government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the pressing issues facing Nigerian students and the broader society. In a statement tagged National Protest: The Adeleke Response made available to OYSUN, by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesman to Governor Ademola Adeleke, the administration highlighted its pro-people and pro-masses approach, prioritizing workers’ welfare, grassroots economic empowerment, and infrastructure development.

According to the statement, Governor Adeleke’s five-point agenda has yielded significant results, including the payment of several billions of naira in pension and half-salary debt, alongside other allowances and emoluments. The government has also disbursed almost a billion naira in wage awards for both pensioners and serving state workers.

To further alleviate economic suffering, the administration has launched a cooperative loan scheme, disbursing almost a billion naira in cooperative deductions and an additional four billion naira plus as cooperative loans to existing and new small business cooperatives across the state. This initiative aims to deepen the local economy and provide succour to the grassroots economy.

The government’s infrastructure agenda is designed to empower the people, with a focus on localisation and sourcing supplies and manpower from within the state. This approach has created jobs and stimulated economic activities across local governments, boosting local material suppliers and contractors. The infrastructure development includes the construction of roads, bridges, and flyovers, which will enhance transportation and facilitate economic growth.

“The Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration is deeply committed to the welfare of Osun people,” said Mallam Olawale Rasheed. “Our initiatives are designed to touch the lives of our people, and our pattern of state expenditure has a direct focus on empowering the local economy, creating jobs, and stimulating economic activities.”

The administration has also commenced immediate disbursement of bursaries to Osun students, with millions of naira already disbursed to beneficiaries. This initiative aims to support students in tertiary institutions and alleviate the financial burden on their families.

Furthermore, the government has introduced an Imole module to moderate unfair pricing and measurements in the market. The state has also partnered with traditional rulers to engage market associations and leaders to implement traditional price control measures. This initiative aims to tackle high food inflation and ensure food security for the residents.

According to the release, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) recently rated the Osun State government’s performance at over eighty per cent, affirming the effectiveness of Governor Adeleke’s model.
