Osun State Government Seals Off Oluode Market (See Reason)

The Osun State Government through the Ministry of Environment and Sanitation recently sealed off Oluode market in Osogbo, the state capital, for non-compliance with sanitation laws.

According to Commissioner Mayowa Adejoorin, the market’s environment was not being kept neat, prompting the government to take action. This move is part of the state government’s efforts to prevent the spread of diseases in Osun.

The market was sealed off for 24 hours before being reopened after the marketers paid a fine and promised to abide by the sanitation laws. General Manager of the Osun Waste Management Agency, Mr. F.O Oyewole, warned that anyone caught dumping refuse indiscriminately would be dealt with according to the law.

Commissioner Adejoorin emphasized that the closure of Oluode market serves as a warning to other markets that fail to maintain a clean environment. He noted that the government’s proactive measures have prevented cholera outbreaks in Osun, unlike other states in Nigeria.

The government is working to maintain a clean and healthy environment, and this market closure is just the beginning. Commissioner Adejoorin warned that those still dumping refuse indiscriminately will soon face arrest and punishment.

The Osun State Government’s efforts have been successful so far, with the state being the only one in Nigeria not to register any cholera cases.
