OAU PSSRC: Nation building is not a thing passed, it is a process – Orangun of Oke-Ila

Oba Adedokun Omoniyi Abolarin, The Orangun of Oke-Ila has urged students to be resourceful while striving toward nation-building that seeks to develop and transform the country’s socio-cultural & political landscape.

The Monarch, speaking at Obafemi Awolowo University, Department of Political Science, Students’ Parliamentary Summit on Friday emphasized the need to embrace cultural values as they play a critical role in enhancing development.

According to him, the government and its parliament as an organ are the keys to fostering policies that positively affect the populace while he also admonished the students against the pervading brain drain.

The OAU, Political Science Students’ Representative Council, Parliamentary Summit led by Rt. Hon. Akinfenwa Gbolahan themed; Legislative reform for transparency and integrity: Improving governance in Nigeria, also had in attendance lawmakers from the Osun State House of Assembly such as; Hon. Akinyemi Oderinwale, representing Ayedire Constituency and Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi Irekandu of Obokun Constituency.

Lawmaker of Obokun constituency, Hon. Adeyemi Irekandu represented by Mr. Bayo Falade at venue of the event, Alex Duduyemi Hall of the University while addressing the students on the theme, hammered on the importance and roles of law-making, representation played by the parliament in a democratic state.

He further highlighted the need for the legislative arm of government to incorporate digitalisation, tracking of bills with periodic constitutional reviews aimed at suiting the demands of the people and solving challenges in the country.

Speaking on behalf of Hon. Akinyemi Oderinwale of Ayedire Constituency at the occasion, Mr. Omoloye Afeez stated the need for a Legislature that aims at transparency, integrity and accountability, to ensure the enforcement of anti-corruption law, promotion of civic education and fostering collaboration and dialogue between the government and the people.

The event featured a special rendition, spoken word performance, presentation of awards and certifications to guest speakers and students of the department.
