Damilare Jacob, a 29-year-old commercial motorcyclist, has been arrested by the Osun State Police Command for alleged rape and armed robbery. The Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the arrest during a parade of suspects at the state police headquarters in Osogbo.
According to Opalola, Damilare allegedly robbed and raped a student who had hired his services on July 26, 2024, at around 7:05 pm. Instead of conveying her to Moro town, Damilare diverted into a nearby bush, robbed her, and had forceful carnal knowledge of her. He also cut hairs from her pubic area, armpit, and head, and threatened to kill her if she reported the incident.
Opalola revealed that the suspect robbed the student of several items, including an iPhone XS Max, a Samsung Galaxy A71, an Airtel Wi-Fi, and a cash sum of N20,000. He also forcefully had carnal knowledge of her without her consent. The victim was taken to the police hospital in Osogbo for assessment and treatment, and the suspect was later arrested and confessed to the crime.
Opalola stated that the suspect will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation. The police spokesperson condemned the dastardly act and assured that justice will be served.
