Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde has affirmed that his administration would succeed in the upgrading of Ibadan airport to an international standard within 12 months.
The governor made this statement on Wednesday, September 18 while flagging off the groundbreaking ceremony of the upgrade of Ibadan Airport to the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan. The event was graced by his counterpart from Osun state, Senator Ademola Adeleke, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ilyas Damagum, and members of the National Working Committee of the party among others.
Speaking at the event, Makinde noted that the first aspect of the project has been awarded to Craneburg, a construction company at a cost of N41 billion, thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving Oyo state government’s request to improve the facility.

The governor also added that logic, science, and solid data are his driving force to embark on the huge project, noting that the government has at the moment upgraded part of the facilities which has increased the number of airlines and flight schedules.
Rounding up his speech, he assured those who think the project was not proper that decisions were made based on logic, science, and solid data which he was quite assertive of. He however, challenged those who may have contradictory data to have a public debate.
Makinde then vowed that the project would be completed in the next 12 months, saying “I will push the envelope”.
