Former Oyo State Governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, has announced his acceptance to receive and wear the beaded crown, a new requirement to ascend the throne of Olubadan. He made this disclosure on Sunday morning during a live radio program, “Agbami Oselu,” on Fresh FM, anchored by veteran broadcaster Abolade Salami.
Chief Ladoja stated, “I will accept the crown if that is what is required to become the Olubadan of Ibadan land.” He also revealed his reasons for previously declining the beaded crown offered by the late Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun.
Chief Ladoja emphasized that he harbors no ill will towards the Olubadan-in-Council, maintaining that the elevated Obas are his friends. He recounted how high chiefs approached him during Ajimobi’s regime, lamenting their lack of respect at state events and how kings from smaller towns looked down on them.
Chief Ladoja explained that, as a former Governor of Oyo State, he occupies a prominent position in protocol and does not require the beaded crown to be recognized at state events.
Furthermore, Chief Ladoja absolved Governor Seyi Makinde of any involvement in the Ibadan chieftaincy crisis, stating that the Governor merely follows the majority’s demands. He noted that Governor Makinde’s support for the 9 high chiefs was the sole dissenting voice among the group.
