Magistrate Court Remands 3 Students for Colleague’s Death

Three students from Iseyin College of Health Science and Technology in Oyo State have been remanded for allegedly causing their colleague’s death. The remand order was given by an Iyaganku Magistrate Court in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The accused students, Shodimu Halima, 18, Agbedun Zainab, 23, and Olaleye Oladunni, 23, face conspiracy and murder charges. Their pleas were not taken due to lack of jurisdiction.

Magistrate M. Mudashiru ordered the trio’s remand at the Agodi Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). The case has been adjourned until December 30.

According to prosecutor Insp Femi Oluwadare, the defendants allegedly conspired with others to commit the offence. They allegedly beat 16-year-old Eniola Ismail on July 29 at around 4:00 p.m. in Iseyin, Oyo State.

After the altercation, Eniola returned home complaining of body pains and later passed away. The offences are contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Sections 319 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
