The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Thursday released an update on post activities related to the Ibadan Blast which occured at Bodija on the 16th January, 2024.
In his report, he started by thanking all those who took part in the search and rescue operations at Ground Zero over the past week especially the first responders from OYSEMA, medical workers and security agencies.
He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the victims get justice. According to him, ” We are still collating details of those affected and we will announce comprehensive steps our government will take to support the victims to rebuild their lives. “
The governor specially appreciated the team from the Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NNRA) who took measurements at the epicentre and found only normal background radiation doses. This is an indication that a radioactive threat assessment level is not severe.
” Also, we thank the geologists from the University of Ibadan led by two Professors who are taking the seismic measurements from the epicentre “, the governor stated.
” The structural integrity tests on buildings around Ground Zero are still ongoing.
” The Emergency Operations Centre is available to attend to anyone affected by the explosion. Any persons still not accounted for after the incident should be reported to the EOC on 07049948057 or 08147672009.
” We have also set up a platform for donations to victims. The money donated goes directly to the Landlords/Residents Association’s bank account while our administration will work with them to ensure it is distributed to the right beneficiaries. Link emergencysupport.oyostate.gov.ng “
