A devastating fire outbreak occurred at Lagere Junction in Ile Ife, Osun State, razing at least six shops. The inferno started around 3am on Tuesday, with residents and shop owners struggling to contain the blaze.
Although the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, sources suggest that it began shortly after the power company restored electricity. Shops that had left their lights on before closing were engulfed in flames, resulting in the destruction of various properties, including phones, clothing, building materials, shoes, and other items.
As the fire continued to rage, residents and passersby joined shop owners in efforts to extinguish the blaze. One affected shop owner, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed his devastation, saying, “This is a heartbreaking day for me. I had just purchased some shoes yesterday afternoon. Now, everything has been destroyed by the fire.”
The incident has left many shop owners in distress, with significant losses incurred. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but it is clear that the fire has had a devastating impact on the livelihoods of those affected.
