Fatal Accident Claims Lives in Ibadan

A devastating accident occurred on Tuesday along the Ojo-Iwo Road section of the Ibadan-Lagos expressway, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 people. The accident involved a trailer carrying roofing sheets that collided with a Hummer bus, a Micra taxi, and a Honda CR-V car.

Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer lost control due to brake failure and crashed into the three vehicles traveling in the same direction.

The accident was exacerbated by the ongoing construction of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, which had blocked one lane of the road. Mr. Emmanuel Omotoso and Mrs. Funmi Adejumo, who witnessed the accident, attributed the severity of the crash to the construction-related lane closure.

Rescue efforts were hindered until private heavy towing vehicles arrived to remove the trapped vehicles and rescue survivors. Some passengers were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Motorists are calling on the Oyo State government to provide heavy towing vehicles and ambulance buses for emergency situations like this. They also appealed to the contractor handling the road construction to open the blocked lane to prevent future accidents.

As of the time of reporting, heavy traffic congestion persisted along Ojo-Iwo Road, with officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, and Oyo State Road Traffic Management Agency working together to ease the logjam.
