Hike in price Oba Rufus Adejugbe, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, has taken measures to regulate the high prices of foodstuff in the state capital. He has cancelled various traders’ associations in markets and prohibited traders from selling foodstuff beyond stipulated prices.

The monarch’s decision aims to remove the undue control of prices by traders and ensure farmers have direct access to traders. This move is expected to make life more bearable for residents of the town.
During a meeting with market women association leaders, Oba Adejugbe directed that prices of certain food items be reduced. The new prices include vegetables (N50), pepper (N100), garri (N700), and kilogramme of meat (N4,500).

The Ewi-in-Council expressed dismay over reports of traders’ heartless attitudes leading to high food prices. The council warned of sanctions for anyone who flouts the directives. Chiefs will monitor marketplaces to ensure strict implementation.
Oba Adejugbe stated that traders had been inflating prices by dictating prices to farmers, and the new measures aim to correct this trend. He directed the leadership of traders in the market to effect the directives and ensure compliance.
