3 Dead, 2 Injured In Separate Accidents on Ibadan-Lagos Expressway

Series of accidents occurred on the Ibadan-Lagos expressway, claiming the lives of three pedestrians and leaving two others critically injured.

On Sunday night, a Toyota Sienna bus ran over three pedestrians at a bus stop near the Academy area in Oluyole Local Government Area, Oyo State. The victims, one male and two females, died on the spot.

In a separate incident on Monday morning, a collision between a Mitsubishi Mazda vehicle and a Ford vehicle resulted in two passengers sustaining serious injuries. They were rushed to LAD Medical Hospital for treatment.

According to Mayowa Odeowo, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), “Aside from the pedestrians who lost their lives, none of the passengers of the ill-fated bus were injured.”

Odeowo also stated, “15 individuals were involved in the accident, including six females and nine males. Two people, one male and one female sustained serious injuries and were promptly taken to LAD Medical Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded.”

The FRSC attributed the accidents to loss of control and speeding, warning drivers to maintain focus and adhere to speed limits. “Over-speeding remains a significant threat on Nigeria’s roads,” Odeowo emphasized.

The police have taken custody of the damaged vehicles, and investigations are ongoing.
